Consultation on lease of Maidstone Park land
Consultation has concluded
Upper Hutt Bowling Club has proposed to take on a long-term lease of the land adjacent to Maidstone Terrace (1- 21 Maidstone Terrace) and 23 Railway Avenue. Council is consulting on this proposal and would like to hear from you.
What’s happening?
Upper Hutt Bowling Club is proposing the use of the area shown above for the development of a bowls complex incorporating a carpark, clubroom, two uncovered greens, a covered green, fencing and associated support buildings.
The clubroom would be 480sqm (40mx12m) and include a kitchen, bar, toilets, office, locker room and a large open gathering area.
The covered green would have a footprint of 1713.2 sqm (40m x 40m) with night lighting, while the uncovered greens would each be 36.6m x 36.6m with a 3m surround.
The duration of the lease is proposed to be a minimum of 33 years, which may be extended.
The land will be leased at a community rate, similar to existing non-profit sport and community organisations in Upper Hutt. No rate payer funding has been requested to complete this project.
The entire leased area will be fenced off with a 1.8m steel fence. The Club advised that this work would be completed by August 2027.
Why is this happening?
The use of this land has been under discussion for many years. Council had previously decided to retain the land for future recreational use.
Council sought Expressions of Interest (EOI) from 6 September to 10 October 2023 with the aim of maximising recreational benefits.
We'd like to hear your views, including objections, regarding this proposal. You are invited under Section 138 of the Local Government Act 2002 to lodge a written submission below.
How to have your say
Consultation is open from 27 January to 24 February 2025. You can make a submission through the button below.
